How to find us
What3Words. The What3Words for our entrance and meet point is grips.grain.reporting. The individual cottages are: Heather Barn handyman.euphoric.liquids, Coach House tweed.duties.inviting, and Owl and Tree Barns are jacuzzi.printing.adapt (shared parking area).
Postcode for SatNav is PL12 6RY. This may well tell you that you have reached your destination down the lane from us, as we share a postcode with several surrounding properties, so it can take you to a grass triangle as your final destination. For the last bit, please follow the directions below from the grass triangle.
From the A38 at Plymouth, cross the Tamar Bridge and go through the tunnel. At the roundabout at the top of the hill, take the right hand exit onto the A388 following signs to Callington, Launceston and St Mellion. After about a mile, at the village of Hatt, turn left at the roundabout (signposted Pillaton). Follow the lane for about 2 miles until you pass Kernock Park Plants on your left. Take the next left (at the grass triangle) and follow the lane for about 300 metres and the entrance to Kernock House and Cottages will be on your left.
From Cornwall – if you are coming up the A38 from further down Cornwall, turn left at the Saltash roundabout, and follow the directions above. If you are coming up the A30, take the exit just after Launceston, signposted – A388 Plymouth and Callington. Follow the A388 until St Mellion. Once through St Mellion, turn Right at the roundabout (signposted Polborder, Pillaton). Go across the valley, and at the T-junction at the other side, turn left. Then after about ½ a mile you will go down a hill and up the other side, and there is a house and a grass triangle at the top of the hill (Kernock Lodge). Turn right here and go up the lane for 300 metres and the entrance to Kernock House and Cottages will be on your left.
Public transport
The closest railway station is Saltash (6 miles). Plymouth Station is 12 miles. Some trains from London go directly to Saltash. Plymouth has a black cab rank, and a taxi to Kernock will cost about £20. For a cab from Saltash you would need to order in advance. A.W. Cabs are Saltash-based and also have a people carrier for larger groups (01752 848400). Two other Saltash-based firms can be contacted on (01752) 848422 and (01752) 848484. The nearest bus stop is at Hatt, 2.5 miles away.
WiFi and Mobile
We have a “Superfast” fibre optic broadband connection to the village, which means we get a good connection for rural broadband. In the village they get speeds of 80mbps, but by the time is had made its way down the last 1/2 mile of copper that is down to about 10-15mbps. This is still much better than most rural broadband, and fine for most purposes. Mobile signal varies depending on network coverage, but O2 and Vodafone work fine with 4G.
