Coach House – Access Statement
The Coach House is an old building dating from c. 1850 and the height of the entrance and internal changes of level make it impractical for wheelchair use as it is not suitable for conversion.
Accessibility Information
Parking
Parking for the Coach House is on a concrete hard stand close to the Coach House garden. From the parking area there is a paved path and then terrace leading to the Coach House garden, which is some 30m to the front door from the car park.
Front Entrance
There is a deep (400mm) granite step which is 200mm high, then another 200mm threshold through the front door. The door is very wide (1180mm) and gives onto a large matwell. From the entrance there is one 160mm step down to the kitchen area and one 160mm step up to the sitting room area.
Kitchen
The kitchen has all appliances and storage located under or on the worktop, with the exception of crockery kept in wall-mounted cupboards above. There is no space under the units for wheelchair users. The stove top is 895mm high, and the top rim of the sink is 920mm high.
Sitting Room
The oak dining table is 760mm high and the hard-backed dining chairs have a seat height of 440mm. There is a 3-seater leather sofa and a rocker armchair, both of which have a seat height of 380mm.
Bathroom
From the living area, there are two 160mm-high steps down to the bathroom. The bathroom door is 690mm wide. The toilet height is 440mm (seat height) and the 700mm-wide wash basin is 840mm to the top rim. There is a shower bath.
Bedroom
The bedroom is an open mezzanine gallery with balustrade, accessed by a staircase. The stairs are 700mm wide and 170cm high. There are 4 stairs with rails on either side leading to a quarter-turn landing, after which there are 7 stairs to the bedroom level. There is a handrail all the way up. The bed is a European king size (slightly bigger than a UK king size i.e. 1600mm x 2000mm) and the mattress height is 420mm. The bedroom window is a fire exit window which, from the floor, is 900mm wide x 800mm high. Outside there is a drop of 900mm giving onto a concrete platform and a set of concrete steps leading down to the garden level.
Garden
The garden has a combination of grass and paved terrace area. One lawn area to the side of the cottage is slightly sloping, while both the larger lawn area in front of the cottage and the terrace are on the level.
Pets
All of our cottages are dog-friendly.
Anti-Allergenic Bedding
Can be provided on request (i.e. non-feather duvets & pillows).
Public Transport
The closest railway station is Saltash (but the most practical is Plymouth, which is 10 miles away). There is now a bus from Pillaton village (15 minute walk from Coach House or 3 minute drive) 12A (Plymouth) or 452 (Saltash) but these are not frequent.
Nearest Shops
There is a Waitrose 4 miles away (on the 2nd roundabout after the bridge, if you follow my directions), and a good greengrocer man in Carkeel (3miles) (if you want an avocado to eat today, as opposed to a week next Tuesday… he also does wonderful raw frozen croissants and pain au chocolat etc – so much nicer than the ready made ones!). There are a couple of very good butchers in the area – one in Tideford and one in Saltash. Tesco will deliver here and there is also a local company which delivers locally-sourced food (including ready meals) to the cottage.
