The Great Outdoors – Walks, Riding and Shooting
Walkers are drawn to Cornwall all year round
The Kernock estate lies in the Lyner Valley on the edge of the beautiful Tamar Valley (featured on BBC Countryfile), between Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor and the Rame Peninsula (known as Cornwall’s forgotten south east coastal corner). With fabulous moorland, country parks, beaches and unspoilt coastal towns, in addition to the glorious South West Coast Path, walkers are spoilt for choice within the area. We have recommended walks with suggestions for convenient and lovely eateries along your route.
Pubs, Cafes & Restaurants
A wide range of eateries and drinking holes, from fine dining to pub grub ordered by distance from Kernock. There are access notes on each as well as post codes.
Historic Houses, Gardens and Museums
Cornwall has plenty of splendid National Trust houses to explore, many with glorious gardens and super dog walks (Cotehele is just 4 miles from Kernock).
High Octane
Here are a few suggestions, including archery and tree surfing. We recommend the fabulous Adrenalin Quarry for high octane activities and waterpark.
Beaches, Sea Watersports, Boat Trips and Diving
This is Cornwall… where to start! We’ve listed the closest beaches first, and then given a list of beaches around Cornwall with brief surfing notes where appropriate. Most beaches are dog-friendly (many all year round, and some only October to March) and we have included notes for the dog-friendly status of the local beaches. In this section you can find details of watersports providers so that you can book in advance.
River and Lake Adventures
If you like canoeing, paddleboarding or fishing then this is a useful starting point for planning your days out.
Picturesque Harbour Towns, Vineyards and Breweries
Kernock is so close to popular harbour towns: Looe, Polperro and Mevagissey are the closest. Though not a harbour town, Tavistock is well worth a visit and a cream tea!
Featured Family Attractions
The famous Eden Project, nationally acclaimed Plymouth Aquarium and Bodmin Jail attractions any many more suggestions for families with younger children are featured on this page.
Cycle Hire, Routes and Trails
Many of the cycle routes here, provide off-road cycling routes and trails along canal paths and disused railways offering safer cycling opportunities for families to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the country at first hand. It is the ideal way for the whole family to explore at their leisure with none of the pressures of parking or traffic congestion.
Wellbeing, Spa, Swimming and Golf
We offer our guests complimentary membership to the China Fleet Country Club offering spa and swimming. Sea and river swimming is popular in Cornwall but you must be aware of the dangers (tide times, temperatures and currents) and swim at your own risk. We list some of the closest and best known Golf courses in Cornwall (the St Mellion championship course is less than 2 miles from Kernock). For current green fees, please check the website of the individual course.
What’s Included
This should help with the packing, as it tells you what to expect in your cottage when you arrive.
Hot Tubs
All our holiday cottages have their own hot tub, which sits on a deck and is covered by a gazebo Please look at this page to read about the high-tech features of these quality Shoreline hot tubs and a few DOs and DONTs to adhere to.
Cancellation Policy
Outlines our cancellation policy, and (highly) recommends you take out insurance to cover you in the event of a cancellation. There is also a link to a company that specialises in insurance for UK holidays (we have no commercial relationship with this provider, and other providers are available, but they seem to offer very reasonable rates, and we thought it might be useful as a starting point).
Do also have a look at our Pinterest boards, which show most of these things to do on a map.
